Composing Students Won the 8th China-ASEAN Music Week Composition Competition

The 2019 China-ASEAN Music Week Composer (Piano Works) competition was concluded on May 9th at the Guangxi Academy of Art. In this competition, a total of 112 entries from high-level music, art colleges and society at home and abroad were received. The judges of the jury judged the scores anonymously in an objective and fair manner and evaluated 18 award-winning piano solo works. In this competition, the piano works of the two composers of the school’s composition department won the awards for excellence, namely ‘Plum Letter ’of Liu Ruixin(undergraduate 2016) and ‘Dance in Empty Mountain’ of Yan Yulin(undergraduate 2016).

China-ASEAN Music Week, together with Beijing Modern Music Festival and Shanghai Contemporary Music Week, form the three platforms for the creation of China’s ‘new music’. The China-ASEAN Music Week Composing Competition, based on the principles of fairness, justice and openness, aims to discover and cultivate youth talents, strengthen international music and cultural exchanges, and expand the global vision of Chinese music. The China-ASEAN Music Week Composing Competition is based on the China-ASEAN Music Week, relying on the geographical advantages of Nanning, Guangxi province, and taking the China-ASEAN Expo and the International Folk Song Festival held annually as an opportunity to take advantage of the trade links between Guangxi and ASEAN countries, and strengthen cultural exchanges between countries. The music festival focuses on nationality, exploration and academics, and is committed to discovering problems in the music culture, revealing contradictions, and solving them. Establish and strengthen the intercommunication and exchange between art schools and music groups at home and abroad, combine the national music materials with the creative techniques and concepts of modern music, inherit the excellent traditional music of all countries, and commit to publicize and promote outstanding young people from all over the world. Musicians and musical works, through the exchange of musicians, restore and establish a maritime Silk Road with serious music art.
