Composing Students Won the First Prize in the‘10th China ConTempo Composition Competition’

The results of the‘10th China ConTempo New Chamber Music Composition Competition’,  jointly hosted by the Central Conservatory of Music and the Birmingham Contemporary Music Group, were announced. The six-player‘Ripple Effect’(for flute, clarinet, cymbals, violin, cello and double bass) created by Wu Fan (instructed by Professor Chang Yingzhong), a 2017 graduate student, won the first prize.

Wu Fan studied piano at the age of 6 and was admitted to the Sichuan Conservatory of Music in 2012. He studied and composed with Professor Chang Yingzhong. In 2017, he continued to pursue a master’s degree with Professor Chang Yingzhong. In 2015, his work was shortlisted and premiered by the 8th Shanghai Contemporary Music Week International Student Master Class. In 2016, he won the second prize of the 5th China-ASEAN Music Week Composing Competition. In the same year, he won the 12th China-Chengdu‘Sunshine Cup’Second prize in the composition competition. He won the third prize of the 7th China-ASEAN Music Week Composition Competition in 2018 and won the school competition award several times. He has cooperated with Turkish pianist Atakan Sari and Australian New Chamber Orchestra Ensemble offspring.

The competition received 30 entries from China, the United States, Germany and other countries. Six judges, including Ye Xiaogang, Chairman of the Chinese Musicians Association and Johannes Schöllhorn, Professor of the Freiburg Academy of Music in Germany, independently scored all the entries that were anonymous. The organizers verified and counted the scores of each judge and the final result of the ‘10th China ConTempo Composition Competition’came out.

Wu Fan will attend the 10th China Con Tempo Composition Competition Awards and Awards Concert at the Central Conservatory of Music on November 5th, and his works will be jointly performed by Ensemble ConTempo Beijing and Birmingham Contemporary Music Group)  musicians.
